Description
This course explores metrology and quality control methods in manufacturing, focusing on both theoretical principles and practical applications. It covers measurement techniques using physical, scanning, and imaging methods. Students work with key measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, scales, go/no-go gauges, gauge blocks, surface plates, and comparators. Advanced metrology techniques, including coordinate measuring machines (CMM), machine vision, and 3D scanning, are also introduced. Core metrology concepts—precision, accuracy, standards, repeatability, reproducibility, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)—are explained in detail. Additionally, the course examines quality control strategies, emphasizing statistical process control (SPC) and Six Sigma methodologies.
