Description

Study of soil, rock and underground water and their relation to design, construction and operation of civil engineering works. Topics include: origin and composition of rock and soil, soil classification, site exploration and instrumentation, compaction, in-situ stresses, soil compressibility and settlement, shear strength of soil, soil permeability and groundwater flow. Study includes evolution of concepts, derivation of theories, and illustrative applications using actual geotechnical problems and projects.
