Description

(RICT) RI Christian Tradition (SJ) Social Justice

Using the fields of masculinities studies and religious studies, this course explores the narratives and expectations placed on men in the context of Christianity. We will explore the basics of masculinities studies, then we will examine how this field intersects with Early Christianity and Biblical studies, Christologies, theology of God, theological anthropology, and American Christianity. We will ask how gender and different gender ideals can or should contribute to a more just society and future. We will conclude by looking at a range of examples of masculinity in contemporary American Christian figures.
