SOC2113 - 01 - LGBTQIA+ Health
Description
(ER) Ethical Reasoning (DM) Diversity & Multiculturalism
This course includes an examination of the key ethical issues in the history of LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual) health, including healthcare disparities, service delivery barriers, and the role of cultural stigmatization for these minoritized groups. The role of systems of power, including religion, government, and education will be analyzed as part of understanding how ethics are enforced within a cultural context. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of associated health disparities and cultivate critical thinking skills to evaluate the effects of the social determinants of health on the well-being of these populations. The course content will be anchored in interdisciplinary professional ethical frameworks (public health, nursing, medicine, and social work) and guided by empirical research methodologies to facilitate analysis and discussion.
