Description

(NS) Natural Science

This course is designed for psychology and non-science majors to understand how the brain works. Have you ever wondered what it does and how it does it? This course delves into the brain's functions, from the smallest structures like brain cells and key regions, to its organization and control over complex functions such as sensing the world and making decisions. Students will learn about normal brain and nervous system function, how the brain influences thoughts, emotions, and actions, and the changes associated with brain disorders like depression, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer's disease. Topics covered include basic structure and function of the nervous system, brain development and plasticity, sensory information processing, learning and memory, and how physical factors such as drugs, diet, or hormones affect the nervous system. This course does not count towards the neuroscience major or minor or the biology neuroscience concentration.
