In this course, students are introduced to mathematical concepts through the lenses of history and learn about life and work of people behind mathematical discoveries. From the development of numerical systems by ancient civilizations to the contributions of contemporary mathematicians, students rediscover historical mathematical findings and meet mathematicians from different cultures, ethnicities, races, genders, and sexual orientations. Historical periods covered may include ancient Greeks and Egyptians, Middle Ages and Arabian mathematicians, renaissance discoveries in Europe, development of calculus, and early modern era.
