(HI) Historical Inquiry (H) Historical Consciousness

The central focus of this course is the contributions of women to the country's history since the Colonial era. Various topics will be addressed, includong work, family, race, ethnicity, reform and the development of the modern women's movement. The course will combine lectures, discussions, readings, a walking tour of Boston's women's history, and films in re-examining the role of women in American society and the reasons for their marginalization. Students will develop interpretive and analytical skills through writing assignments and class discussion.
