This course seeks to prepare students with a global perspective on the development of historical narratives in East Asia. It introduces key themes in Modern East Asian history including, the dissemination of classic philosophies, the development of polities and economic systems, food traditions, and other cultural features. East Asia commonly means China, Japan and Korea, but this course also examines other locations in Asia such as India, Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand. Latly, the course examines the interactions between East Asia with the rest of the world as well as intra East Asian relations from approximately 1600 C.E. to 2000 C.E.
