Description

This course will introduce students to current, research-based practices in the instruction of mathematics at the middle and high school level. Through readings, hands-on activities, and observations students will develop concepts, skills, and pedagogical procedures for teaching mathematics for understanding. Students will become knowledgeable about the Mathematics Common Core Standards for mathematical practice and content. In addition, students will design and present inquiry-based lessons, as well as explore the integration of manipulatives, technology, and other tools in mathematics teaching. This course also includes a required 30-hour pre-practicum field experience. Field hours must be scheduled during periods of mathematics instruction.
