This course will focus on sustainable economic development and economic growth. It offers an overview of theories of economic development and experiences of developing countries. Specific topics include population growth, migration, the special role of women, microfinance, education, health care, privatization, aid, debt relief, nationalization, monetary and fiscal policy, exchange rate regimes, foreign capital flows, trade negotiations, and most importantly sustainable growth. The roles of international organizations and private industries in economic development are also examined.
