Description

This course introduces students to the broad landscape of cybercrime and the forensic principles and techniques used to investigate and prosecute digital offenses. Students examine major categories of cybercrime-including network intrusions, financial fraud, identity theft, data breaches, malware-based attacks, and online threats-and explore how these incidents are handled in real-world settings. The course covers the full lifecycle of a digital investigation, emphasizing legal and ethical considerations, proper evidence handling, and maintaining a defensible chain of custody. Through hands-on exercises and realistic case studies, students practice acquiring, analyzing, and reporting on digital evidence across multiple platforms. The course concludes with a digital-investigation simulation that integrates the skills and knowledge developed throughout the semester.
