CCJ3212 - 01 - Criminal Justice Reform: Pathways to Pro
Description
This course will rigorously examine historical and contemporary criminal justice policies and practices in the United States. This analysis will be based on an understanding of the current political and socio-historical context, encompassing the history of policing in communities of color, current police-community relations, and critiques of all components of the criminal justice system: the police, courts, and corrections, particularly regarding their treatment of people of color. The course will also examine policies and approaches that sustain injustices and unequal treatment. Current trends, such as mass incarceration, racial profiling, privatization of prisons, sentencing disparities, juvenile justice and processing for minors, the school-to-prison pipeline are among the approaches to be considered and thoroughly examined.
